A. THE SHIP 444 CODE
As a Sea Scout aboard Ship 444, my duties include guarding against
all water accidents.  
I will know how to properly render aid to those in need.  
I will be physically and mentally prepared for all challenges that await
me.
I will do my best to help the ship in growth, recruitment, activity, and
reputation.
I will be unselfish and will seek to preserve the motto of the sea:
women and children first.

B. SHIP BYLAWS
1. Objectives
The objectives of Ship 444 are:
A.        To learn the traditions of the sea.
B.        To learn and practice leadership.
C.        To have fun on the water!

2. Membership
Membership shall be open to all young adults who meet
requirements set about for Venturing.  Members must be 14 years if
age and have completed eight grade or 15 years of age regardless
of grade. Members may remain a Sea Scout until their 21st birthday.
All members must be registered and agree to and sign the ship code
and bylaws.

3. Officers
A.        The elected petty officers shall be boatswain, boatswain’s
mate for administration, boatswain’s mate for program, yeoman,
purser, storekeeper, and crew leader as needed.  The duties of the
petty officers are described in the ship’s log and in the National Sea
Scout Manual.
B.        The normal term of office shall be for six months.  Terms will
run from March 1st- August 31st and September 1st through the end
of February.  Elections shall be held no later than the meeting prior
to the beginning of the term of office.  
C.        No member shall serve more than two successive terms in
the same office.  
D.        Any ship member may nominate or be nominated to any
position of the ship.  No rank requirements are set about for
positions, but nominees must posses the ability to carry out the
terms of office.  
E.        All contested ballots shall be secret.
F.        Nominees must be willing and eligible to serve the full term of
office.

4. Ship Business
Ship Business will be conducted under the principals outlined in
Robert’s Rule of Order.  Voting will be by simple majority, with the
exception of changes or amendments to the bylaws, which will
require two-thirds vote of all active members.  

5. General Meetings
General meetings will be held the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of every
month.  Special meetings may be called by crews or the ship as
needed under the direction of the boatswain.

6. Petty Officers’ Meetings
Petty Officer’s meeting will be held at the beginning of general
meetings as needed or at any time deemed necessary by the
boatswain.

7. Activities
It shall be the policy of the ship to participate in at least one outside
activity every two months.

8. Communication
The official communication of the ship will be carried out by email
and the ship’s website.  Supplemental communication may be sent
by postal mail as necessary.

9. Dues
Dues will be $48.00 a year.  Dues may be paid at the beginning of the
meeting at $2.00 or once yearly at $48.00. Both adult and youth
members will be required to pay dues. Two months delinquent dues
make a member ineligible to participate in activities.  

10. Money Earning
The ship shall have at least one fundraising event a year for the
general funds of the ship.  These funds may be used for operating
cost, such was website, uniforming, charter renewal, and events.  
Additional fundraising may be conducted to raise money for event
participation as needed.  Prior to each fund raising event it will be
decided whether proceeds will be applied to the ship in general or
individually to those participating in the event. All money earning
activities must be approved by the skipper and meet the
requirements listed on the BSA Money Earning Application.
